Distance Reiki works like this: we agree a time on WhatsApp; you lie down wherever you are; I give the full 45-minute session from Cannes, working on a stand-in for your body; I message you when it's done. The sequence, the length and the attention are the same as an in-person session. Only the location changes.

That's the whole mechanism from your side. The rest of this article explains what happens on mine, why the practice exists in the Reiki tradition at all, and what people actually report — because "sending energy" is not a phrase I use, and I'd rather you understood the thing than took my word for it.

Where distance practice comes from

Usui Reiki has three degrees. The second degree — the level I hold — introduces three symbols, and one of them exists specifically for working without physical contact, across distance and time. This isn't a modern add-on for the internet age; it was taught this way in Japan in the 1920s. Practitioners have been giving sessions to people in other cities for a century.

So when I offer a distance session, I'm not improvising. I'm doing a defined practice, in a defined way, that has a defined place in the tradition I trained in.

What I actually do — the proxy

Here is the part most practitioners don't explain, and the part I think matters most.

I don't sit in a room and "send" something into the air. I work on a physical stand-in for your body — a proxy. For those 45 minutes it becomes you. My hands move over it exactly as they would over you if you were on the table in front of me: head, throat, chest, stomach, lower body, in the same order, at the same pace, unhurried. The session has a beginning, a middle and an end, and my attention is on you the whole way through.

If that sounds strange, consider how you already use proxies: the photo of someone that makes you feel close to them; the chair they always sat in. The mind and body are very good at treating a representation as the thing. The proxy gives my hands somewhere to be and my attention something to hold. What you receive is the attention.

What you do

1. Agree a time. Any time zone. If you're in London, Dubai or on a plane tomorrow, we find a slot that's quiet at your end. 2. Lie down. Hotel bed, sofa, a reclined seat — anywhere you won't be disturbed. Phone on silent. Fully clothed, obviously. 3. 45 minutes. Rest, doze, or simply notice. There is nothing to do and nothing to get right. 4. A message from me when it's done, and a short exchange about what you noticed.

What people report

I'll tell you what I hear, and I'll tell you honestly what I don't know.

Many people tell me afterwards that they felt warmth, or a kind of pressure, in the exact places my hands were — without knowing the sequence in advance. Some feel heavy, then very light. Some fall asleep within minutes and wake when the message arrives. A few feel very little during and notice the difference the next day, in how they slept.

I cannot give you a laboratory explanation for the first of those. I can tell you it is the most common thing people say, that they say it in Cannes and in Dubai, and that I stopped being surprised by it a long time ago.

Who it's for

People who travel — a founder living between Nice and London, a family that winters here and summers elsewhere. People who've just landed and want the session before they're ready to have anyone in the room. People who simply prefer to receive without being seen. And people who've already had sessions in person and want to keep the rhythm going when they're away.

It isn't a lesser version. For some people it is the better one.

Reiki is a complementary practice in any form; a distance session doesn't replace medical or psychological care, and I'll say so if something you describe needs a doctor first.

FAQ

How does distance Reiki work? We agree a time, you lie down wherever you are, and I give the full 45-minute session working on a proxy for your body, in the same sequence I'd use in person. I message you when it's done.

What is a proxy in distance Reiki? A physical stand-in for your body that my hands work over during the session. It gives the practice structure and my attention something to hold; what you receive is the attention.

Does distance Reiki feel the same as in person? Many people report the same sensations — warmth or pressure where my hands were, heaviness, deep rest. Some feel less during and more the next day. Both are normal.

If you're not here right now

A distance session is €180, same as in person. Message me on WhatsApp with your time zone and a window that's quiet for you. I work from Cannes; you can be anywhere.
